Letter from the President
As the new president of Montgomery West HOA, I
would like to thank previous board members and you as individual homeowners for
your time and efforts to make Montgomery West a beautiful neighborhood for our
home. We enjoy a good location and a
well-kept community.
You will notice this newsletter focuses on
activities you can do to keep Montgomery West our beautiful home. I hope you will see a few things you can do
to improve our neighborhood. The board
plans to continue to keep our common areas maintained and provide small
improvements as our budget allows.
Regarding covenant enforcement, we encourage you
to submit AERC applications for improvements to your property. We continue to retain the services of our
lawyer to assist us in collecting past dues and enforcing our covenants.
As the spring approaches with warmer weather, we
encourage you to meet neighbors you may not know. It strengthens us as a community if we know who our neighbors
are. The board plans to have a party
this summer to give you an opportunity to meet others. Look for dates in the future. Please let us know of any concerns or
suggestions by email on our
website or attending any of our board
meetings. We look forward to hearing
from you.
Sincerely,
John Patton
Spring is Here!
It’s
that time of year when we emerge from the winter blahs and get excited about
beautifying our homes. Despite your long list of spring chores, the Board of
Directors would like to request all fences be repaired, houses cleaned of
persistent algae growth due to wet weather, and driveways repaired. Please remember to fill out AERC form and
submit to the Architectural and Environmental Review Committee (www.montgomerywesthoa.org) before
you consider making home improvements.
Please Be Respectful to Your Neighbors!
There are many
examples of ways we can improve our environment and be considerate of our
neighbors. First, please remember if you take your
pet walking, you need to bring a plastic bag or two in case you need it.
It is the law in this County that you must pick up after your dog. Do the right
thing for others and avoid areas around mailboxes and bushes at the edge
of yards and driveways.
Second, there are individual
homes with outside backyard lights that are on overnight. These lights often
shine in neighboring homes and can be distracting. Please save energy by buying
motion detector lamps or turning off your outside lights using a timer.
Finally,
be considerate of places you park your car. There are times when a car is
blocking a neighbor’s mailbox and this provides an obstacle not only for the
homeowner but the postal service as well.
Common Covenant Violations
Covenant
violations are often the result of miscommunication or misinformation. In order
to facilitate a better level of understanding of violations, below is a list of
some of the most common ones:
Trashcans– covenants require that all trashcans (including
recycling bins) be covered and only placed in public view on the evening before
and the day of collection. After that time, trashcans must be removed from
curbside and placed out of sight.
Vehicles- No commercial vehicle, trailer, camper, camp truck,
house trailer, boat (except under 16ft and hidden from view) or non-operable,
non-licensed vehicle should be kept in the open on property.
Sheds – Homeowners can only have one shed on their property that must be similar
in color to the adjacent home and not exceed a particular size. In addition,
covenants prohibit the installation of temporary structures such as tents,
shacks, barns, pens, kennels, runs, stables or other buildings.
If
you have questions about specific home improvements or alterations, please
contact a Board member immediately. And remember – just because your neighbor
did it, doesn’t mean it is okay for you to do it too!
MWHOA Plans Block Party
About 10 years ago, Montgomery West had an annual Block Party, an
opportunity to meet and enjoy friendships with neighbors, eat good food, talk
and play together. The Board would really like to bring back the Block
Party, but we need your help.
Volunteers are needed to help plan and organize the party or just
to provide suggestions. To volunteer or provide suggestions, email Heather
Patton at info@montgomerywesthoa.com. For example, would you prefer one party
for the whole neighborhood, or two smaller parties, one for each side of
Centerway. Would you like to have it in the spring, the summer, or the
fall? Volleyball or Whiffle ball or Soccer? Bring on your ideas!
Second, let me know if you would consider being on the committee that schedules
and plans the party or parties. It will be a Potluck, so there will not
be too much to do, but the more feedback we have in the planning, the more
likely we all are to have a great time. We plan to use our common areas
for the fun, so no one will have far to go to get there.
And finally, when we have the date, please plan it into your
calendar and come, bringing a favorite dish to share. A party simply
would not be the same without you! I am really looking forward to hearing
your thoughts, and seeing you at the party.
